LMS Gala

In a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the last steam working out of Barrow Hill Roundhouse, details have been announced of a truly special steam gala dedicated to the history of the Midland Railway, the LMS and the Roundhouse.

The last steam working out of 41E [the depot allocation number for Barrow Hill Roundhouse at the time] took place on 4th October 1965 so what more appropriate moment could this be to welcome the 100th steam locomotive to visit the Roundhouse since it re-opened in July 1998. They are delighted that LMS Princess Coronation Class 6233 Duchess of Sutherland will be the 100th steam locomotive to visit Barrow Hill Roundhouse by kind permission of the Princess Royal Class Locomotive Trust.

Other highlights of the event will include:
Explore Britain's last operational Roundhouse and see it just as it would have looked in 1965.
Free steam train rides.
Static locomotive displays and cab visits.
Turntable demonstrations.
Trade stands.
Excellent on-site catering including a Real Ale Bar.

For those coming to the Gala by train, there will be a free shuttle bus service from Chesterfield Railway Station running throughout all three days. There will be plenty of free on-site parking for those travelling to the event by car.
