Watermill Theatre

Following the success of Romeo and Juliet, The Watermill present an equally energetic and innovative production of Twelfth Night.

Often regarded as Shakespeare’s perfect play, Twelfth Night’s dreamlike fantasy world will be evocatively reimagined in the 1920s where prohibition is rife and Europe is still reeling in the wake of war. It will feature music by Duke Ellington, Django Reinhardt, Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong.

The Watermill has become known for its bold, irreverent style of presenting Shakespeare productions. For our anniversary year we present a play that balances comedy, romance and tragedy in equal measure. Combining The Watermill’s famous ensemble approach to Shakespeare alongside dazzling actor-musicianship this production will be influenced by great jazz musicians with a modern twist.
