From the Highest Fells to the Furthest Frontier

From the windswept summits of England’s craggiest mountains to the sparkling lakes in its most dramatic of valleys, Vivienne knows just where to go to experience the best of Cumbria and the Lake District. And it’s not just about the highest, the deepest, the longest… the UK’s premier walking destination still has its secret nooks and crannies. Mark, meanwhile, borne on the prevailing breeze, will hop, skip and jump from Maryport to South Shields, revealing the scenic magic of the greatest surviving monument to the classical age… on our very doorstep. Hadrian’s frontier has found its place on the bucket list of a huge number of active visitors and deserves to be appreciated fully, coast to coast.

Vivienne Crow is an award-winning freelance writer and photographer specialising in the outdoors. She has written more than a dozen guidebooks, and is well-known for her popular weekly walking columns, which appear in several newspapers in north Cumbria.

Meeting Alfred Wainwright in his early twenties changed the life of Mark Richards and crafting guidebooks for walkers became an overarching passion. Mark has written the bestselling eight-volume Lakeland Fellranger guidebooks published by Cicerone.
