Sue Fox, Irene Sanderson

Sue Fox, author and founder of Joellen Publications, and Irene Sanderson, book designer and illustrator, are working together to produce a series of children’s books. In this workshop they will take you through the production of a book from first thoughts to the launch of the printed edition, including tips on graphics and metadata.

Sue Fox was a primary school head teacher before becoming a maths lecturer at the University of Cumbria. During this time she co-wrote two maths books for student teachers. These had a specific brief and were with large publishing companies. Following this experience she decided to self publish children’s stories, working through the process from initial idea to finished books. These books feature Carlisle together with some sneaky maths.

Irene Sanderson is a graphic designer, typographer and artist, and has worked freelance for large publishers, such as Chatto and Windus, and small such as Joellen Publications. For book design and illustration she uses a wide variety of media and she is an enthusiast for social networks to seek out audiences. Irene is a publisher herself specialising in translations of Japanese literature.
