NYOS Symphony Orchestra – conducted by Principal Guest Conductor of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, the charismatic Ilan Volkov – performs Stravinsky’s wonderfully rhythmic composition The Firebird (the complete ballet) during its 2016 summer tour. The Symphony Orchestra is also joined by BBC New Generation Artist, Pavel Kolesnikov to perform Tchaikovsky’s turbulent and virtuosic Second Piano Concerto.

This landmark summer tour concludes with a stand-alone performance at the BBC Proms 2016. During this concert the Orchestra will perform the world premiere of a completely new work by composer Helen Grime. The composition forms part of a joint commission by The National Youth Orchestras of Scotland and The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.

Grime’s works are rooted in Scottish connections, taking inspiration from two pictures by Scottish artist Joan Eardley. The BBC SSO performs the first piece Catterline in Winter during Prom 27 and NYOS Symphony Orchestra performs the second piece Snow during Prom 30.

All BBC Proms 2016 will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3.
