So said Gustav Mahler to fellow composer Sibelius, and Mahler’s remark was nowhere better exemplified than in his amazing 90-minute Symphony No. 3.
Scored for huge orchestra, two choruses and soloist this an epic and magical work, and is one of the most engrossing and uplifting works ever written – Mahler’s hymn to Nature.
Originally each of the six movements had a title, but were later removed by the composer. They give us an idea of what Mahler had in mind when composing this work.
If you’ve never heard Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 live, this a rare chance to hear a work that will move you, excite you, entrance you and can take your breath away with its sheer majesty.
