Wind Resistance
Every autumn, two-and-a-half thousand pink-footed geese fly from Iceland and Greenland to winter at Fala Flow, a protected peat-bog south-east of Edinburgh. From this windy plateau, writer and multi-award-winning singer-songwriter, Karine Polwart, surveys the surrounding landscape through history, birdlore and personal memoir. Ideas of sanctuary, maternity, goose skeins, a Scottish football legend, and medieval medicine all take flight, in this spellbinding alchemy of story and song.
Wind Resistance is an immersive musical essay. A meditation on sanctuary. A moor walker's journal. A personal memoir of maternity. An archaeology of flight science and football, medieval medicine and compassion. It is a magical and emotional tale.
