Welsh Open Snooker
The Welsh Open world ranking event has been ever present on the calendar since 1992, which makes it the longest running ranking event other than the World and UK Championships. South Wales is a traditional hot bed of snooker, with all-time greats including Ray Reardon, Terry Griffiths and Mark Williams coming from the region.
Support for snooker in the area is strong and fans pack the arena for this tournament which brings the world’s best players to Wales. In 2015, the event moved to Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena for the first time since 2003, and it was won by John Higgins, beating Ben Woollaston in the final. All 128 players compete at the venue in a flat draw.
