Durufle Requiem
Cardiff Polyphonic Choir (conductor David Young)
Please join for this performance of the Duruflé Requiem in the beautiful surroundings of the Cathedral at Llandaff in a programme which will include Elgar's ever popular Serenade for Strings and Sospiri.
The latter was composed in the months leading up to the outbreak of the First World War and it was perhaps the gathering stormclouds of war that moved Elgar to write a heartfelt, bleak adagio that would not be out of place as the slow movement of an Elgar symphony.
The programme will also include Debussy's Danses Sacreé et Profane. Both dances are light and beautiful - without a trace of wickedness!
The choir will be accompanied by David Geoffrey Thomas (organ), musicians from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and by the very fine solo harpist Bethan Semmens.
The concert will include:
Duruflé - Requiem,
Elgar - Serenade for Strings,
Debussy - Danses Sacrée et Profane,
Elgar - Sospiri,
Dyson - Hierusalem.
