Cambridge Literary Festival: Carol Ann Duffy, Gillian Clarke
Join us for a wonderful celebration of poetry from Carol Ann Duffy, who has been Britain’s Poet Laureate since 2009, and Gillian Clarke, who in 2008 became the National Poet of Wales. Carol Ann and Gillian will read from their work and discuss the responsibilities and opportunities associated with their posts, from composing poems to mark public occasions to the chance they have to inspire new generations to make poetry a part of their daily lives.

Appointed Britain's Poet Laureate in May 2009, Carol has also won many awards including the Forward Prize, the Whitbread Poetry Award and the TS Eliot Prize. Her
poems address issues such as oppression, gender and violence, in an accessible language that has made them particularly popular in schools.

Gillian Clarke is an award winning poet and teacher, with a wide involvement in the poetry and writing scene. Much of her writing centres on her connection with Wales and the Welsh landscape.
"Gillian Clarke's poems ring with lucidity and power...her work is personal and archetypal, built out of language as concrete as it is musical"
