The House Of Bernarda Alba

‘During our eight years of mourning, no wind from the street will enter this house!’

The heart of Andalusia, Southern Spain, 1936. Tyrannical matriarch Bernarda Alba imposes upon her five adult daughters a mourning period of eight years in the wake of the death of their father. During that time, the daughters are not permitted to leave the house or engage with the outside world. But Bernarda’s puritanical way of life cannot be imposed upon her youngest daughters, who know that they are owed something by the world, and refuse to waste their youth obeying dictatorship. When Pepe el Romano comes asking for Angustias' hand, passions bubble over as Adela and Martirio fight for their own taste of the world outside their prison-home.

Spain's greatest playwright's poetic and brutal tale of domestic tyranny and rebellion, played out by an entirely female cast of characters.
