Edinburgh Showcase

If you missed the amazing 'Oddity' or 'Pussy' at this years Edinburgh Fringe, fear not! There's another chance to see them!

'Oddity' was Studiospace's first show to go to the fringe and was a massive hit. 'Pussy' is by Tight Theatre, and was formed by Studiospacers in their second year choreography module. It's been reworked a lot since then, with lots of new material, definitely not one to miss!

Oddity: Gravity. Interstellar. 2001. What do these award-winning films have in common? Visionary directors have created all three and none of them are particularly funny. With stunning 3D actors and minimal special effects, this three-hand comedy is sure to be the complete opposite.

Oddity charts the journey of three unconventional astronauts as they embark on their mission to Mars. Confined to one tiny space shuttle, these three incompatible characters chart the stars throughout the galaxy. Through a series of flashbacks and riotously improvised action, witness the progression towards a tense yet charming climax; two minutes before the oxygen runs out.

Pussy: Five girls, one stage.

'Pussy' is a grotesquely comedic exploration of what it means to be a young woman growing up in today’s society. The five young female performers combine dance, song, animalistic sounds, Beyoncé lyrics and more to create the distinctly physical style of Tight Theatre. Through this physicality the five girls explore taboos of female adolescent sexuality, how society shapes female perceptions of appearance and the ultimate need for sexual satisfaction.

Pussy dives into the media-fueled, sexualized world of the teenage girl. Exploring the uproarious contradictions of a culture in which a lipstick can be both worshipped and weaponized, where feminist popstars promise to ‘keep it tight, keep my figure right’, and the female body is a grotesque battle ground over which the public and private self fight for control. Tight Theatre are adding their personal voice to this multi-faceted discussion of femininity and feminism in society.
