Victoria: Tenebrae Responsories
Dan Forrest: Requiem For The Living

Christopher Finch - Conductor
Nigel Nash - Organ

Bristol Ensemble, Roger Huckle - Leader

Spanish Renaissance composer Tomas Luis de Victoria's Tenebrae Responsories, sung traditionally on the three nights preceding Easter, are among the most powerful and profound sacred works of the Renaissance. Written for the dowager Empress of Spain, they were performed annually in her private chapel, with Victoria himself singing tenor.

Partnering the arresting power of these dark and mysterious works, will be Dan Forrest's exquisitely beautiful Requiem For The Living. This wonderful, luminous work composed in 2013, projects a wide range of profound expression; from a harsh commentary on the vanity and pain of existence, to a plea for forgiveness and reconciliation, and the comfort of a vision of the peaceful afterlife.
