Darkness, Light and Hope
This concert, in memory of Sam Tarleton who died suddenly in April 2014, is given by "The Sylvestrins" - a chamber choir of accomplished, mostly British, singers who usually come together to perform about once a year to great acclaim in South West France, joined by Bristol's own Allegrezza String Quartet and directed by Shane Fletcher.
The programme will move from "darkness" - epitomised by the beautiful music which Henry Purcell wrote for the funeral of Queen Mary, through "light" - Alessandro Striggio's majestic 40 part motet, Ecce Beatam Lucem, and then to "hope" - the piece it is thought to have inspired, Thomas Tallis's famous and ethereal 40 part motet Spem in Alium. Add to those Johann Sebastian Bach's "Singet dem Herrn" and other uplifting pieces, and we hope to send you away with a spring in your step, which is what Sam would have wanted!
All proceeds from this concert will go to SADS UK - the charity raising awareness about heart conditions in young people.
