A Late Night Passion
Few post-Baroque Passion settings can be said to reach the heights of Bach’s masterpieces, the St Matthew and St John Passions, but the Passio of Estonian composer Arvo Part is an extraordinary work that undoubtedly ranks as one of the greatest composed in recent times.
Against a slow moving tide of hypnotic musical undulations the suffering at the heart of the Easter story gradually unfolds, connecting with the listener in an intensely powerful way.
Performed in the stillness and contemplative atmosphere of St George’s this promises to be a profoundly moving and affecting experience.
