The Secret Life Of Organs
A double-bill of experimental musicians revealing the secret sounds of Union Chapel’s majestic organ – using the instrument to its full potential, including music by Philip Glass and Tom Jenkinson (Squarepusher).
The country’s great organs are often neglected and this tour will celebrate them in all their glory as the first ‘synthesisers’ invented centuries before their electronic counter-parts. The tour will allow some of these instruments to be heard in a new light, playing repertoire less ‘prelude and fugue’ and more experimental and cutting edge.
Exceptional performers The Necks and James McVinnie (Bedroom Community) will open up the extraordinary sonic possibilities of five of the country’s most magnificent organs and bring new sounds and life to these ground-breaking instruments.
