"If music be the food of love, play on…"
Shakespeare's bittersweet comedy delights in the mischief and mayhem of blurred genders, crossed boundaries and a world turned upside down – with music at the heart of the revelry. Director Wils Wilson (The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart) saturates this tale of magic and wonder with all the psychedelia and bohemian delight of the 'Summer of Love'.
Desire and grief collide in a heady cocktail as hidden emotions are aroused in a quartet of lovers. But their frivolity is tinged with cruelty, as the puritanical Malvolio – coaxed for a time into glorious Technicolor – is humiliated and abandoned; a man marooned, left behind by a generation he will never understand.
Join Viola, Orsino, Sebastian, Olivia, Toby Belch, his sidekick Andrew Aguecheek and the rest of the household for some very raucous merrymaking in Shakespeare's most joyous tale of wit and passion.
Lyceum Associate Artist Wils Wilson's vibrant production – our second collaboration with Scotland’s leading producing theatre this Autumn – will include a score by Welsh Music Prize winner, Meilyr Jones, whose bold and beautiful compositions fuse early music with contemporary tones.
