Storytelling Sunday: Grimm And Grimmer: Martin Maudsley, Saikat Ahamed
Stroud Valley, 1972. Granny slides through a wall while twelve ravens flap through the night and little Alys escapes into the trees.
Alys Torrance weaves together folktales and new tales about death, life and talking.
Martin Maudsley is a professional storyteller based in the South West of England. He tells stories in theatres, festivals, schools, village halls, pubs, tents and outdoors. His repertoire of stories consists of fresh re-tellings of traditional tales from local legends and earthy folk-tales to magical myths and epic sagas. He uses poetry, music and song alongside stories, and often collaborates with other performers.
Martin regularly works with local and national organisations providing storytelling performances, tailored projects and creative workshops. Recent clients for storytelling projects include: the BBC, Bristol Festival of Nature, Bristol, Paignton and Chester Zoos, Cheltenham Festival of Science, the Eden Project, English Heritage, the Environment Agency, the National Trust, River Cottage HQ, the Soil Association, and several regional Wildlife Trusts.
'A master craftsman, telling old tales with new resonance' (Peter Stevenson, Aberystwyth Storytelling Festival).

'Ahamed is an excellent storyteller, bringing an energetic bounce to the stage
that invests his performance with real fizz... it superbly encapsulates Ahamed's skills as a writer as well as a performer' (Bristol Evening Post)
'Ahamed gives a fire cracker of a performance switching from one character to the next and checking in as the narrator in between with enough clarity to make each one clear... Ahamed’s charisma as a performer shines through' (What's On Stage).
