War, loss and remembrance: explore the stories of the stones.

Over the last year photographic artist Marko Dutka has been photographing the Commonwealth War Graves at Arnos Vale Cemetery. By photographing these monuments at night Marko has discovered a different context to these graves. Marko has recorded not only the graves but also the relationship that we all have with them.

By using long exposure photography the constant reminders of our everyday existence such as street lighting, plane and satellite trails and traffic show our close proximity to these records of war and loss.

Thus what at first appear to be blazing sunsets are in fact light pollution from nearby suburbs. Ribbons of light in the distance are actually car light trails. By using moonlight the stories of those buried can be revealed in these beautiful and enigmatic pictures.

In this illustrated talk Marko will be discussing the inspirations behind the project, the technical and photographic requirements that need to be considered and will be using a selection of photographs taken to talk about the lives lost.

Future plans for the project will also be revealed and Marko will also be explaining how you too can be involved in the next stages of this project.
