Family Funktunes is turning 15 and to celebrate they’re having a massive party!
Since playing together for the first time in Kingston-upon-Thames in September 2001, Dan Tester and Simon Collins have been a staple on the soul/funk/disco scene in Brighton and Hove.
Regulars at the old Sussex Arts Club, Latest Bar, The Globe, The Hope, London Unity, Roundhill, Coopers Cask, and The Gloucester, the landmark birthday is being marked with a fundraiser for 1BrightonFM at their new home, the Rialto in Dyke Road, just up from the Clock Tower.
Over two floors, live music comes from the peerless The Impellers (performing Ultimate Breaks & Beats) and the superb Along Came Shifty (Brighton’s freshest hip-hop collective).
Bringing you the very best in raw funk, raregroove, disco and re-edits, DJ support comes from 1BrightonFM’s Nitty Gritty, Justin Pollard, Shamblin’ Sexton, Mick Robinson and KME, plus Family Funktunes’ founders Dante and Delv, and their old friends SiSupahoop, Mellortron and Beatwell.
