Resistance
Historian Roderick Kedward and writer Caroline Moorhead consider the complex experience of the French Resistance. Travelling to southern France in the late 1960s, Kedward recorded a series of interviews with ordinary men and women from the Resistance. These unique testimonies, the basis of his groundbreaking book Resistance in Vichy France, have now been deposited at the Keep in Brighton and are the starting point for a new Centre for Global Resistance Studies at Sussex University.
Caroline Moorhead is the author of the acclaimed Village of Secrets: Defying the Nazis in Vichy France which tells the extraordinary story of a French village that helped save thousands who were pursued by the Gestapo during World War II. The discussion will be chaired by Martin Evans, Professor of Modern History at Sussex University and author of Algeria: France’s Undeclared War (2012).
