Brighton Festival: Flaming Lips + To Kill A King
Q magazine named them as one of the ‘50 Bands To See Before You Die’. Their elaborate shows have included puppets, balloons, costumes, giant hands, confetti, and a man-sized plastic bubble in which frontman Wayne Coyne rolls across the audience. Who knows what’s next...?
The songs, acclaimed for their signature lush, multi- layered, psychedelic rock arrangements, have titles such as Yeah, I Know It’s a Drag... Wastin’ Pigs is Still Radical. No wonder The Flaming Lips are so irresistible. The triple Grammy Award-winning band released its latest album, The Terror, earlier this year; they’re flaming hot and ready to rock Brighton...
This event takes place at Brighton Dome, which has achieved Bronze Status for disabled access from Attitude Is Everything.
Alternative rock outfit from Oklahoma City founded by the eclectic Wayne Coyne. The Lips are renowned for their spectacular, eccentric live shows, which include elaborate costumes, puppets, confetti and Wayne Coyne's man-sized plastic bubble in which he walks over the top of the audience. Following hit albums like The Soft Bulletin, Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots and At War With The Mystics, the band continues to push boundaries.
From self-releases on USB sticks engulfed in a gummy skull head and fetus, to an album covering Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon, and a celebrity collaboration with their 'heady fwends' including Ke$ha and Nick Cave, the band seem to be forever productive and creative. 2013's dark and atmospheric album 'The Terror' met with glowing reviews, while in 2014 they released their unique version of the classic Beatles' 'Sgt.Pepper' album.
Flaming Lips tour dates
A folk-inspired five piece with comparisons being made from Keane to Arcade Fire. To Kill A King’s songs begin with lead singer Ralph Pelleymounter’s acoustic compositions, around which the band work in drums, bass, electric guitar, synth and other instruments. They focus on Pelleymounter’s lyrical narrative, with accompaniments ranging from tender instrumentals to climactic orchestral passages including strings, brass and five-part harmonies.
