Liszt Les Préludes (Symphonic Poem No.3)
Walton Viola Concerto
Tchaikovsky Symphony No.5 in E minor Op.64
Arguably the first symphonic tone poem ever written, Liszt’s dramatic Les Préludes opens the Orchestra’s 92nd season with Barry Wordsworth at the helm. Sir William Walton was 27 when he wrote his Viola Concerto, performed here by Ukranian violist Andriy Viytovych, Principal Viola of the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House. Tchaikovsky’s monumental and justifiably popular Symphony No.5 concludes the concert.

'Whatever the source of the orchestra's spirit, I wish I could bottle it up and send a crate to some of the London based orchestras' (The Times).
