Goldberg Variations
Bach Goldberg Variations BWV 988
Joanna MacGregor is one of the world's most innovative musicians, appearing as a concert pianist, curator and collaborator, and was Artistic Director of the Bath International Music Festival 2006-2012.
Well known for her interpretations of Bach, she was invited by Sir John Eliot Gardner to perform the Goldberg Variations as part of the Bach Marathon at the Royal Albert Hall in 2013. The Goldberg Variations consists of an aria (which is repeated at the end) and a set of 30 variations, and is considered to be one of the most important examples of variation form ever written. It is one of Bach's towering keyboard masterpieces and is a considerable technical and interpretive challenge for any performer.
'Then came one of the day's highlights: pianist Joanna MacGregor's exceptional interpretation of the Goldberg Variations...' The Guardian.
Running time: 70 minutes / no interval.
