Shabnam Khan

Let the beautiful voice of Shabnam Khan transport you, as she sings the poetry of Mian Muhammed Baksh and Bulleh Shah, and immerse yourself in the culture of a bygone era. The poetry will be sung in Punjabi with English introductions.

Sufiana Kalam has a meaning beyond poetry through its religious connotation of providing guidance and building character. The oral transmission of this poetical form has remained strong and it is part of the everyday idiom and proverbs of the Punjabi language. Traditionally it would have been recited or sung along with music at shrines or in homes during religious gatherings.

For this event, the interior of Theatre in the Mill will be transformed to resemble the traditional courtyard setting of a haveli – stately home – where such an event would traditionally have taken place.
