Did you know that Shakespeare was censored? As part of LGBT+ History month we are working with the Filthy Shakespeare Company to discover what LGBT+ content we lost and asking questions about how it can be put back in.
In 1737, The Licensing Act introduced censorship to U.K. stages (Later known as the Lord Chamberlin’s office.) Overnight LGBT+ had to be expunged and Shakespeare was not given an exception.
We are brining academic knowledge and theatre creatives together; it's theatre archaeology to liberate Shakespearean performance. Starting with Romeo and Juliet, we will prove that when he wrote of Love, he wrote of LGBT+ love too.
Age recommendation/suitability 21+; The performance contains profanity and references of a sexual nature.
