Set in a hinterland between the civilised world and the wilderness,?TOM ?tells the story of one man’s journey to rediscover who he really is. This stunning hour-long film will be screened in a socially distanced set up at the Pavilion Dance South West Theatre for the 2020 edition of Arts by the Sea.

A dance for camera installation, TOM is the latest creation by award-winning choreographer, film-maker and Sadler’s Wells New Wave Associate, Wilkie Branson. In this soul-searching, poetic film, Branson explores storytelling using the hip hop language of b-boying, bringing it together with cutting-edge technologies including animation, projection mapping, sound design and film installation.

The dark and affecting narrative of the film will appeal to festival-goers who are keen to explore themes of self-discovery, isolation, mental health and the perseverance of the human spirit as it takes an innovative look at age-old questions.

Last year, this emotive, meditative journey was awarded the Theatre & Technology Award for ‘Outstanding Production’. It has been co-commissioned for Arts by the Sea 2020 by Pavilion Dance South West and supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England with additional support from the Unicorn Theatre, Hive House London, Theatre Bristol, Capture Reality and Floating Harbour Web Design.

This piece explores themes of loneliness and mental health, which may be distressing for some viewers.
