The Gliderdrome Boston has pulled off its biggest coup yet with confirmation that legendary USA Soul/Funk band SHALAMAR will be coming to the venue on FRIDAY 3rd SEPTEMBER for the bands first ever performance in the area!!
The band featuring original members JEFFREY DANIEL HOWARD HEWETT and CAROLYN GRIFFEY – daughter of the bands original record label owner DICKGRIFFEY are coming over to the UK in September to headline some rescheduled Festivals around the country and after being told about the history of the iconic venue insisted on re-routing their tour itinerary to be able to come to ‘The Glider ‘
‘Our regular tour promoter had told us about this legendary venue’ on previous UK tours – about how in the 60’s and 70’s it featured all the USA Soul stars such as Otis Redding, Steve Wonder, Ike and Tina Turner along with several Tamla Motown stars and it had us thinking ...why don’t we come here too’ said lead singer Howard Hewett ‘Normally we play all seated theatre venues but our promoter told us about how the venue simply ‘was legendary’ and that we would have everyone dancing so we thought ok, let’s make it happen!’
So on Friday 3rd September SHALAMAR will be performing the same headline set that will be seen by 10,000 people in London the next day to 1200 people at Boston Gliderdrome.
Boston can expect to see the Jeffrey Daniel to do the ‘Moonwalk’ – the dance he introduced to the UK on Top of The Pops back in 1982 on the famed Gliderdrome stage!! And of course All the hits from the million selling Friends album – There It Is, I can make you Feel good, Friends and of course ‘A Night to Remember ‘ along with classics such as Right in The Socket, Take That to The Bank, Make That Move, 2nd Time Around and more!!
