Amateur Dramatics: A Musical Comedy

Direct from the sell-out success of Half A Sixpence, the Level 5 Musical Theatre Ensemble present a landmark production of Alex Parker's Musical Comedy 'Amateur Dramatics: A Musical Comedy' under the direction of Gary Sefton, Music Direction of Alex Parker himself and Choreographer, Drew Varley.

In what will be only its second production after its Guildford Electric Theatre world-premiere this summer, University of Chichester students will be pioneering what we hope will become a new tradition of taking brand new musical theatre productions into further development.

At just 23 years old, the multi-talented and fiercely ambitious musical director-pianist-composer’s credits already include a concert version of A Little Night Music at the London’s Palace Theatre, MD work on Stephen Ward, The Pajama Game, Putting It Together and Soho Cinders, and a big hand in recent revues God and Everything’s Coming Up Roses, praised by Sondheim Himself!

Amateur Dramatics: A Musical Comedy introduces us to the Great Osterley North Amateur Dramatics Society – or, as chairwoman Honoria likes them to be known, 'GONADS' – as they prepare for the performance of their latest production, the classic musical 'The Golden Empress'. In the process, the cast, crew and committee are forced to explore friendship, community and theatre with hilarious results; but with Honoria worrying about funding, Rose and Diana fighting for the leading role, professional director Max tearing his hair out, Henry and Viv starting to learn more from each other than their lines, and talented but shy Evie stuck in the background, will The Golden Empress ever make it to the stage?
