Generations - Drama Double Bill: Thinking Straight By Laurence Collinson / The Lasting Sense Of Sudden By Jonathan Ap Emrys
Thinking Straight by Laurence Collinson:
Laurence, a gay TV scriptwriter, tries to write for a straight audience but two of his characters come to life and confront him, threatening to tear down the walls of his writing closet and out him. 'Think straight and think gay; they both lead the way to liberation...'
Thinking Straight was first performed at Soho's Almost Free Theatre in 1975 and starred a young Anthony Sher. That original production was described by The Guardian as 'ingenious and ingeniously developed'.
The Lasting Sense of Sudden by Jonathan ap Emrys:
The second play is brand new and is based on a series of interviews with members of the LGBTQ community in Birmingham and the West Midlands. Writer Jonathan ap Emrys has created a new play that is at times funny, sad, moving, outrageous and infuriating. Inspired by real stories, it examines the ongoing struggle for self awareness and acceptance.
This production contains nudity, adult themes, and strong language. It is not suitable for under 16s.
