Following the highly successful production of Ciphers earlier in 2016, Birmingham School of Acting returns to The Old Rep with The Merchant of Venice.

Part revenge tragedy, part fairy-tale romance, part courtroom drama; rife with racial and religious tensions and switching between noble sentiment and vicious practice in the blink of an eye.

Shakespeare’s most genre-defying play exposes the mixed and muddy motivations of a cast of bitter business rivals, loved-up lotharios and curious cross-dressing heroines as they struggle to cope with the longings and loathings in their all-too-human hearts.
