The concert will start with Schoenberg's Chamber Symphony No. 2, which was written in almost romantic style in two movements. The first movement has a poignant beauty of a couple lamenting their past joys; and the second sparkles with their current joy, before returning to lament their anguish.
The Sinfonia is delighted to welcome Kate Suthers, of the CBSO, to perform Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto.
The concert will finish with Schumann's Symphony No. 2, which was first performed in 1846. At the time, Schumann was suffering with health problems, and so it is surprising that this symphony sounds so cheerful - written almost entirely in C major.
