Sonic Youth Slept On My Floor - An Evening With Dave Halsam
Moseley-born music writer and Hacienda DJ, Dave Haslam unveils his autobiography ‘Sonic Youth Slept On My Floor: Music, Manchester & More’.
Dave Haslam grew up in Moseley, and fell in love with music watching artists like Iggy Pop and Blondie at Barbarella’s, plus local acts the Prefects, and the Au Pairs at the Fighting Cocks and elsewhere. He moved to Manchester to study and stayed, becoming a resident DJ at the legendary Hacienda club in 1986. Since then he has DJ-d worldwide, and written five books.
His new work, his memoirs, ‘Sonic Slept On My Floor’ features tales drawn from dozens of memorable encounters. Morrissey visits Haslam at home; Sonic Youth sleep on his floor; John Peel takes him to see Public Enemy; a drug dealer threatens to slit his throat. He interviews David Byrne, Kevin Rowland, Terry Hall, Neneh Cherry, and John Lydon. A few months after the Bataclan attack, he ends-up in Paris, biting a lesbian DJ on the arm in a club by the river Seine.
Hosted by Jez Collins (founder of the Birmingham Music Archive) and presented in association with Foyles.
