Birmingham Classical
Initially drawn together by their shared belief in the visceral, communicative power of the string quartet, the Albion Quartet’s innovative programming is fast becoming their benchmark. The quartet’s creative curiosity has led them to curate concerts focused around specific themes and presenting lesser-known works alongside core quartet repertoire.
For their Birmingham debut, the quartet presents an evening of all female composers. Sandwiched between brilliant British composer Kate Whitley’s Charlotte Mews songs, (reworked for soprano from her original 2017 settings), and the UK premiere of Nadja by American composer Kate Soper, is Elizabeth Maconchy’s unjustly underperformed third String Quartet from 1938.
