Weathered vocals and a song writing troubador to end a special weekend.
Rod Picott sings with a bare and bones grace reminiscent of Springsteen’s Nebraska combined with the off the cuff lyrical and music directness of the late Jason Molina. So many terrific artists fly under the musical radar in today’s music world, and Rod Picott is a top-class valid wordsmith that needs to be heard.
His appearance at St Georges Hall as the finale of Bewdley Festival’s American Epic Weekend tells you all you need to know about how highly Rod is rated. His performance, which is full of anecdotes and tales, fits beautifully in the traditions of American music featured and brought to life by the American Epic films themselves.
His latest album (his 11th) I “Tell The Truth and Shame The Devil”is compleyeley acoustic, featuring only guitar, harmonica and Picott’s weathered vocals.
