An Evening of Tex-Mex Magic
Los Pacaminos are a Tex-Mex outfit, all of whom are seasoned musicians in their own right, but undoubtedly one member is a British musical favourite. A certain Paul Young, one of the UK’s best loved vocalists, fronts the band and showcases another side of his vocal delivery, creating a foot-stomping Tex-Mex party atmosphere from start to finish.
Their music lies somewhere between the Mariachi and Norteno styles of Mexico and the Country/Blues sounds of South West America, with a typical Pacaminos set including crowd pleasers such as, “Wooly Bully”, “La Bamba” and “Speedy Gonzales”. What’s not to like?
Originally a six piece, guitarist Jamie Moses, accordion/keyboard player Matt Irving, songwriter Drew Barfield, bassist Steve Greetham and drummer Mark Pinder played their first gig at the White Horse pub in Richmond, Matt’s local watering-hole, in 1992. Now a 7piece band with the arrival of pedal steel player Melvin Duffy, the Pacaminos have been packing them in ever since, dressed in traditional Mexican attire to emphasise the difference between this project and the standard Paul Young catalogue.
Los Pacaminos are now past their 25th year and show no signs of stopping. With an unmatched live album, two acclaimed studio albums and two more live albums under their belts they continue to explore the music of the South West. Dust off your favourite Mexican hat and poncho for an unforgettable evening of Mexican magic.
