The Osiligi Maasai Warriors are a tribal group from southern Kenya who perform authentic Maasai song and dance as well as their famed jumping.
They have performed at schools, churches and theatres throughout the UK with great success over a number of years and will to return to the Maltings in September 2020. The show - which sold out last time - is both entertaining and informative and involves audience participation plus a question and answer session on the lives of the Maasai. The tour is promoted as a stand-alone event which pays for the group, their extended families and beadmakers, plus one part-time promotional job. In recent years, the group has also worked in conjunction with a small charity – Osiligi Charity Projects – and this has led to the transformation of their local community with new water stations, a new orphanage, a new church/community centre and – most impressively – a new, state-of-the-art primary school with 200+ sponsored pupils and a medical centre. The performance, which lasts around one and three quarter hours including an interval, includes a Powerpoint presentation on this theme and Maasai beadwork is available for sale. Many schools are now using the Warriors' visits for curriculum development.
