The Earl Grey Saxes are made up of 4/5 of the Borders Big Band Sax Section: Paul Cormie, Sam Lord, Ewan Mitchell and Camille Castledine, along with our multitasking duo Pam Toward and Cath Cormie on everything from violin to the kitchen sink.

We have been playing in the big band and in other groups together for years and that coupled with our love of 'posh tea' and homemade cake gave Paul the idea to form us into a group. It turned out to be the best idea ever...we get to drink tea, eat cake and enjoy playing a wide variety of music.

Our repertoire is definitely diverse including Guns N’ Roses Sweet Child O’ Mine, Bach and an arrangement of Polly Put the Kettle On! We play a range of styles from folk to jazz and some well known favourites such as Pink Panther, Teddy Bears' Picnic and Mission Impossible and we even come with props. Sam also writes and arranges music for the group to play. We must be doing something right because people keep asking us to come and play for various events.

We were lucky enough to be part of the Berwick Sound Waite and Sea Project which included a specially commissioned piece for us from Ailie Robertson by Strongback Productions. We've also recently been approached by another composer who wants to write a piece specially for us, a request to play in London and have been invited back to North Yorkshire for a third time.
