This Beach

This Beach is a blistering satire of white western privilege made in response to the global refugee crisis.

A private beach inhabited by a family; a European family. They are the owners of the beach. The beach has been in their family for generations. The family celebrate a wedding, a union between two sides; each of whom can offer something to the other. Security, prosperity, progeny. During the wedding celebration a stranger arrives on the shore of their beach. The family must decide how to deal with this stranger.

This Beach is a blistering satire of white western privilege made in response to the global refugee crisis, from multi-award-winning theatre company Brokentalkers (The Blue Boy, Have I No Mouth, Circus Animals’ Desertion). This Beach is a response to the current refugee crisis gripping Europe, the notion of sovereignty of one people over a piece of land; and the lengths people will go to bar entry to their dominion.

Brokentalkers (The Blue Boy, Silver Stars, Have I No Mouth, Circus Animals’ Desertion) have been acclaimed internationally for their pioneering approach to theatre and continue to explore the world we live in with honesty, originality and courage.

This Beach was originally co-produced by Goethe Institut, Munich Kammerspiele before its sold out run at Dublin Fringe Festival 2016.
