The Norwegian Vertavo String Quartet, praised by the Sunday Times for playing that combines “passion and clarity, intellect and emotion”, launches this year’s Mozartfest in fine style with the first of the set of quartets that Mozart dedicated to his “dearest friend” Joseph Haydn. The programme is completed by an arrangement of movements from an intensively expressive piano suite by Janác?ek, and Beethoven’s appealing “Harp” Quartet, so-called because of its passages of delicate harp-like pizzicato playing.
