Mendelssohn - The Hebrides Overture (Fingal's Cave)
Mendelssohn - Violin Concerto in E minor
Calin Huma - Symphony "Carpatica" (World Premiere)
Andrey Baranov, violin
Christopher Petrie, conductor
The formative ideas for The Hebrides were written whilst Mendelssohn was on a trip to Fingal's Cave on the Island of Staffa in Scotland. It has since become one of his best known works and has been paired in this concert with one of his great masterpieces; his Violin Concerto in E minor.
Soloist Andrey Baranov won the prestigious Queen ElisabethInternational Violin Competition in 2012. Calin Huma presents the world premiere of his symphony.
A Hampshire-based composer, his music reflects his love of the romantic repertoire.
