Talking Musical Revolutions
Since Mike Scott emerged from his native Edinburgh in 1978, fronting Another Pretty Face and publishing the fanzine Jungleland, the future Waterboys legend has followed a distinctive and transcendent musical path. Tonight Scott will be in conversation with fellow former fanzine editor, Gavin Martin, for a Talking Musical Revolution of words, music and film clips, tracing his singular rock ‘n’ roll journey. Meandering through Scott’s period-defining albums such as Fisherman's Blues and This Is The Sea, to his recent triumphant Modern Blues, via his acclaimed Adventures Of A Waterboy memoir, this will be an evening to take you right to the heart of The Big Music.
Back in 1977, Bangor boy Gavin Martin started the original fanzine, Alternative Ulster, when he was just 17, inspiring the punk anthem by Stiff Little Fingers. Shortly afterwards Gavin left for London and joined NME as their youngest staff writer. Today he is music critic at The Mirror, and creator of Talking Musical Revolutions.
