Over the last 35 years, the name Ian Rankin has become shorthand for genre-defining crime-fiction. His career was kick-started by the publication of his first novel proper, Knots & Crosses. The book heralded the arrival of the character Rebus, a flawed detective who has found sustained favour with Rankin’s substantial readership.
The inimitable author has also written short stories, a graphic novel, and a play, Dark Road, which premiered in September 2013 at the Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh.
Rankin’s novels have been translated into more than twenty languages and have won their author numerous industry awards, an honorary doctorate, and an OBE for services to literature. His appearance at the Space Theatre will include a reading from his most recent book, a chat with Bangor’s own Colin Bateman, and an audience Q&A. The event promises to be a highlight of this year’s festival.
