The FSO’s new season starts with a ‘Russian’ evening, and who better to capture the slavic passion of the music than our soloist, Irina, who last played with the orchestra in 2011. Her profound understanding of Russian repertoire is certain to touch us deeply in her ‘Rach-Pag’ performance. The other major piece is Borodin's 2nd Symphony, which is considered one of the composer's greatest works; it anticipates many ideas that appear much later in the music of Stravinsky. The two remaining works are well known, having have been used in cinema and TV: the Mussorgsky in the film ‘Fantasia’ and the Khatchaturian, in a reduced version, for the TV series ‘The Onedin Line’; we shall be playing the thrilling full-length original version.
