To celebrate Mardi Gras 2013, Gumbo Soup will lift off on February 15th. This periodic wave offering celebrates New Orleans music and culture, stopping by The Shoreditch for the very first time and what a lineup we have: The Dixie Ticklers, The Peters, Gustave Andre, Cajun DJs.
Whip out your best mardi gras costume, bead yourself up, and shake your meat to the beat.
The Dixie Ticklers
This six piece ensemble has put today’s date on early jazz, placing it alongside groove-based shuffles and fresh modern treatments whilst constantly staying true to the polyphonic approach that shaped the music of the initial pioneers such as Louis Armstrong, King Oliver and Jelly Roll Morton.
The band manages to bring in a deep scholarly understanding of New Orleans and Dixieland jazz without letting it undermine their enthusiasm for performing, and they manage to bring a contemporary London edge to the music while being true to its origins.
