Johann Strauss II’s Die Fledermaus Overture opens the concert in a side-by-side performance.
Bringing together professional players from Orchestra of the Swan and talented young musicians from the Warwick Schools Foundation.
We welcome the return of pianist Viv McLean to Warwick Hall, for Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2, a work of lyricism, elegance and youthful confidence, written when the composer was just
twenty years old.
The programme concludes with Sibelius’s 5th Symphony, famously inspired by the Finnish landscape and the sight of swans soaring overhead.
Award-winning pianist Viv McLean has performed with leading orchestras at major venues including Wigmore Hall and at festivals such as Cheltenham Music Festival, with appearances across Europe, Japan, Australia and the USA.

Orchestra of the Swan is rooted in the landscape and heritage of Warwickshire, but its work takes it all over the country, from village halls and churches to the Queen Elizabeth Hall on London’s Southbank, Wilton’s Music Hall and even Stonehenge.
The orchestra explores the English imagination in all its richness and diversity, while always looking far beyond it. It’s not unusual to hear Purcell, Elgar or Britten alongside Nick Drake, The Smiths or Radiohead. Programmes draw on music from across the centuries and across the world, finding unexpected connections along the way.
Orchestra of the Swan doesn’t just perform music. It reshapes and reimagines it, creates new work of its own, and collaborates with actors, writers, poets, visual artists, sound and lighting designers, and musicians from folk, jazz and popular music. At the heart of its work is a belief that the idea of an orchestra is still evolving.
That spirit runs through everything the orchestra does. Its recordings have now been streamed more than 18 million times, its Words & Music productions tour nationally, and its work increasingly encompasses film, immersive installations and new artistic experiences. Orchestra of the Swan is as likely to be heard on BBC Radio 6 Music and Radio 4 as on Radio 3.

One of Britain's foremost classical pianists who has performed throughout the world as a concerto soloist, chamber musician and recitalist.
Viv has performed concertos with such leading orchestras as the London Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic, Philharmonia, English Chamber, Halle and BBC Concert Orchestra.
He won the First Prize at the Maria Canals International Piano Competition.
