Kenneth Williams was a one-off comic genius, whose natural gift to amuse lifted the nation on radio and the silver screen alike.
Now, in the year in which he would have turned 100, a new musical celebrating his contribution to British entertainment opens at Uppingham Theatre.
Master-impressionist Wink Taylor, whose gamut runs from Churchill to Basil Brush, stars as Kenneth Williams.
Says pop culture website SetTheTape: ‘He captures every single vocal inflection and nuance seemingly with ease, to the point that you could easily forget at times this is not the genuine article, which is testament to Taylor’s brilliance.’
The book and lyrics are by Uppingham actor and writer Henry Dawe with music by Tom Neill.
'Real joy comes through Tom Neill’s original songs' says There Ought To Be Clowns theatre blog. 'A vibrant, textured soundtrack' says The Guardian.
Nationally acclaimed producer and performer John Hewer directs, with musical direction by Christopher Peters.
One hundred years on from Kenneth's birth, we pay tribute to Williams' life and work through this uplifting and moving musical portrait.
