Named after a Funkadelic song, Urge Overkill formed in 1986 amidst Chicago's industrial-hardcore scene and for a while, their stylish, retro-'70s outfits, matching medallions, and heavy Cheap Trick homages earned the group a popular following in alternative rock circles. They also enjoyed brief mainstream success when Quentin Tarantino picked up their cover of Neil Diamond's 'Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon' for the soundtrack of Pulp Fiction. Successive albums, however, were not embraced by the mainstream and MTV, and the struggles in and outside of the band finally led to their eventual disbandment.
