The Original Blues Brothers Band artist photo

The Blues Brothers started life as a backing band for comedians Dan Ackroyd and John Belushi for a sketch on Saturday Night Live before gaining prominence in the follow up hit movie, which was released in 1980. The original musicians were hand-picked by Ackroyd and Belushi, long-term rhythm and blues fans themselves, and guitarist Steve 'The Colonel' Cropper was at the top of their list. Having first recorded for Stax Records in 1961 before joining Booker T. Jones' group The MGs in 1962, Cropper has recorded and penned hundreds of well known songs including Knock On Wood, In The Midnight Hour and (Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay. Lining up alongside Cropper is saxophonist Lou 'Blue Lou' Marini, who has been performing with The Blues Brothers since the beginning, and a collection of the most gifted session men on the scene.
