From their initial somewhat shambolic goth-garage-punk beginnings, covering Screaming Lord Sutch's 'Jack The Ripper' and having an admiration for The Sonics, Faris Badwan and friends have matured considerably over the course of their career, becoming a respected name and stadium-level stars. Their dark gothic sounds now lean more towards Nick Cave and Joy Division than their original garage-rock roots.

The not-so-difficult second album 'Primary Colours' was awarded NME's best album of 2009 and received a Mercury Prize nomination, while 2011's 'Skying' and 2014's 'Luminous' both met with great critical acclaim, the latter entering the UK Official Album Chart at no.6. while 2017 sees the release of 'V', their 5th album.
